Philly Neighborhood Guide - Northeast

Northeast Philadelphia
Not to be confused with the FAR Northeast :-) Northeast Philadelphia is a section of the city above Center City East, bordered approximately by North 6th Street to the east, the Delaware River to the west, Callowhill Street to the south, and Aramingo Ave to the north. We will break it up further into three neighborhoods: Northern Liberties, Fishtown, and Port Richmond, which are three of the most rapidly changing neighborhoods in Philadelphia.
Let’s journey to each!
NORTHERN LIBERTIES is a trendy neighborhood known for its bustling nightlife, art galleries, and eclectic cafes. The area is home to a mix of young professionals and families who are attracted to the neighborhood's unique mix of historic architecture and modern amenities.
You can enjoy a range of activities including visiting Liberty Lands Park, walking through Liberty Walk (a pedestrian-only walkway with local boutiques, bistros, and bars) or grabbing a drink at one of the many breweries in the neighborhood.
Public transportation is a breeze in Northern Liberties, and as of 2022, the median sold price of a home was $580,000. You can find a wide variety of homes here, from classic brick row houses to newly constructed apartment complexes complete with pools, spas, gyms, and more.
North of Northern Liberties is FISHTOWN, another popular neighborhood that has seen significant development in recent years. The area is known for its music scene, excellent dining options, and hipster vibe.
Living in Fishtown, you’ll never be without something to do. See a concert at the famous Fillmore, shop at the many local boutiques, or sample some of the city's best cuisine at destination restaurants like Suraya or Cheu.
A walkable neighborhood, you can find parks, schools, and gyms within a few blocks of each other. Like Northern Liberties, the homes in Fishtown range from upscale apartment complexes to historic row houses. The median sold price of a home in Fishtown was $450,000 in 2022.
Travel northward a few blocks and you’ll find yourself in PORT RICHMOND. A blue-collar neighborhood located along the Delaware River, the area is known for its industrial roots and working-class history. Recently, Port Richmond has seen development of new housing and businesses, and many families live here.
If you live in Port Richmond you can enjoy local parks like Cohocksink Recreation Center, delicious cuisine in the neighborhood's many restaurants, cafes, and bars, or the unique architecture and history of the area.
Most homes in the neighborhood are row houses and the median sold price of a home in Port Richmond was $220,000 in 2022.
