Despite its relatively recent emergence on the Philly neighborhood map, Newbold's roots run deep in the ancient soil of South Philadelphia. The neighborhood’s name itself had been resurrected from a historical street map by a local business owner which quickly took hold.

Newbold has been experiencing earnest efforts to renew the neighborhood and provide a green lung and cultural hub for residents and visitors alike. You'll find residential streets lined with Native Dogwood or Willow Oak trees, courtesy of the neighborhood's spirited tree planting initiatives, in addition to unique local gardens. This green spirit is accompanied by diverse culture and cuisine! Walk down any of Newbold's streets, and you're sure to be enticed by plenty of food options-- from authentic Vietnamese Pho to Mexican street food.

Sure, Newbold has its selection of good food, but what’s a Philly neighborhood without its array of local breweries, bars and effervescent coffee shops? From Second District Brewing's craft beers to the inviting aroma and treats at Batter & Crumbs Vegan Bakery, there's something for every taste. You can’t talk about Newbold without mentioning South Philadelphia Tap Room, a neighborhood favorite for drinks and unique eats surrounded by impeccable vibes. We also adore Miss Rachel's Pantry for a family-style meal!

Newbold’s vibrant community is a testament to Philadelphia's multicultural fabric. As the home to immigrants from Southeast Asia, Latin America, and beyond, Newbold is a cultural melting pot. This is highlighted by unique local events and festivals, such as the annual Newbold Blues Festival - a delightful celebration of community and music. At the end of the day, the real strength of Newbold lies in the bonds of its proud residents. Whether you're exploring Philly for the first time or a local looking for a refreshing change, Newbold invites you with open arms.
